Industrial Development Authority

Inova Alexandria Hospital | Delivery Expected: 2028

What is the IDA and how can it help you?

The Industrial Development Authority (IDA) is one of the City’s most flexible tools for advancing economic development. Established by Alexandria’s City Council and authorized by the Code of Virginia, the IDA helps businesses and institutions bring projects to life, whether through creative financing, strategic partnerships, or property support.

This seven-member body, appointed by City Council, has wide-ranging authority. The IDA can own, lease, or finance property and infrastructure, and tailor its services to support the needs of a project. From helping a nonprofit expand its facilities to supporting major development through tax-exempt bonds, the IDA adapts to drive growth.

Planning a project in Alexandria? The IDA is here to help you make it happen.
