GROWING IN ALEXANDRIA FEATURING:
MK Salon & Spa
From retail and restaurants to tech and media, contractors to coworking spaces, large, small, and everything in between, a diverse array of businesses call Alexandria home. In our blog series, Growing in Alexandria, we sit down to talk with businesses around the City to learn more about who they are, what they do, and why they love it here. Have an idea for a business in Alexandria to talk to? Email us!
This week, we had a chat with Glenda Saravia, the owner of MK Salon and Spa in Old Town. We learned about her triumphs and challenges in realizing her dream of owning a salon.

AEDP: To get us started, please tell us a little about the salon, and how you got started.
Glenda: MK Salon is a full-service salon. We offer messages, facials, nail services as well as hair styling services for men and women.
I’m originally from El Salvador, and I immigrated to the United States in 2004. Owning my own salon has been a long-time dream of mine. In 2019 I had the opportunity to buy this salon and I took the opportunity full force!
AEDP: Can you talk about the biggest challenge you have faced since being in business?
Glenda: The pandemic has been the biggest challenge. I started my business just a few months before the pandemic hit. It was such a challenge to overcome but we’re continuing to hang in and survive. We have been scheduling private appointments for our clients on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, upon request, to make sure everyone feels comfortable.

AEDP: Finally, can you tell us why you decided to locate in Alexandria?
Glenda: I love Alexandria! Especially Old Town, it has everything I could want or need to grow my business. We have enjoyed being in this city.
