Mayvin Returns to Alexandria to Build Its Future

Twelve years to the day after co-founders Lisa E. Rosenthal and Victor Pirowski started Mayvin, their government contracting firm, in an Alexandria basement, they returned to the City, this time to cut the ribbon on their new 16,000SF office space overlooking the Potomac River in Canal Plaza.

“It feels surreal to be back in Alexandria,” Rosenthal says as she gazed out the floor-to-ceiling windows in the kitchen common area where Maryvin’s (vaccinated) executives had gathered to celebrate. “It feels like coming home in a lot of ways.”

Rosenthal says she plans to have 130 people working in the office by the end of the summer, who they’ll recruit through local job fairs and advertising. She expects to continue to grow their workforce from there. The company will do $50 million in revenue this year, and Pirowski went right from the celebration to submit a final proposal.

“Mayvin’s expansion and investment in their workforce is proof of their resilience, growth, and commitment to their clients and partners,” said AEDP CEO Stephanie Landrum ahead of the event. “But it is also proof of the opportunities Alexandria offers in terms of location, connectivity, and support for our businesses as the region begins to reopen.” 

The choice to come back to Alexandria was easy for the Mayvin team. They were able to secure favorable lease terms that let them set up, as Rosenthal described, between client sites Joint Base Andrews and the Pentagon, where they can watch the president come and go­—as well as Osprey aircraft performing training exercises.

Rosenthal and Pirowski also said that their employees love the energy of North Old Town and are eager to explore the ever-growing area and get to know all the local lunch options.

Jerry Sanford, Vice president of Business Development for AEDP, attended on behalf of AEDP and the City and helped cut the ribbon. “From the first time I met the Mayvin team, there was an energy and a family feeling that will fit right into the community. Alexandria has that great ecosystem to grow a business, and we’re excited to have Mayvin as part of it.”
