Name: Thomas Voskuil & Lynn Umemoto

Business Name: Taqueria Picoso

AEDP: Tell me a little about your business

Thomas and Lynn [T&L]: We are a truly authentic Mexican Taqueria. We have two chefs who are real chefs from Mexico City.

AEDP: What is the biggest challenge your business has faced?

T&L: Well we opened up 6 weeks before Covid hit in 2020. THAT was a challenge we never dreamed of when opening.

AEDP: What’s one of your favorite things about the holiday season in Alexandria?

T&L: The festive look of King Street lights during the holidays.

AEDP: What has been a highlight of the year for you?

T&L: If I could include the past 24 months because I feel that 2022 is when we were mostly discovered after Covid. We were featured in the Washington Post in the weekend section by Tim Carman. We then appeared on Television for Fox 5’s morning show for the best of the Alexandria’s west end. We were also featured on Seth Tillman’s Signature Dish for his segment on Mexico. Finally, we were honored to be in Zebra Press Reader’s choice awards for: Best Tacos, Best Happy Hour, and runner up for Best Margaritas.
