Ironistic is all about making an impact—both as a company and within the local community. The digital agency, co-founded by Chris Foss, his wife Rita Foss, and his business partner, Jared Elliott, bridges the gap between tech and marketing services.
“The three of us decided to go start our own full-service agency where we can do both the geeky technology development type things and the marketing pieces,” said Foss. “From the beginning, our tagline has always been creative marketing, innovative development, and positive impacts.”
Founded in 2012, Ironistic has grown into a multifaceted firm serving nonprofits, corporations, financial institutions, government contractors, and more.
One of Ironistic’s standout projects involved collaborating with Toyota. The agency was tasked with showcasing the automotive manufacturer’s devotion to its employees and its commitment to empowering underrepresented groups in the tech workforce. Ironistic created an interactive website highlighting Toyota’s dedication to inclusivity and diversity, as well as its partnerships with organizations such as the NAACP, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and Asian Pacific Community Fund.
Elements within the website exhibit Ironistic’s prowess in fusing dynamic storytelling with intentional design. The project won a MarCom Award, a creative competition honoring excellence in marketing and communication, illustrating the agency’s ability to positively impact both clients and the community.
Why Alexandria? A Natural Choice for Business and Family
Foss, who has lived in Alexandria for nearly 30 years, shared why Ironistic’s headquarters was established in the City. “Alexandria is an incredible community with a thriving business environment,” Foss noted. “We love the small-town feel combined with a major metropolitan city right across the river.”
Foss emphasized that Alexandria’s unique ecosystem, resources, and supportive business environment were crucial to Ironistic’s growth, crediting the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, The Chamber ALX, and the former Small Business Development Center as key contributors. In 2017 Ironistic was also recognized as The Chamber ALX’s “Overall Business” Winner.
“It has allowed us to grow,” said Foss. “From creating our first business plan to having true experts available through the City to give us advice and point out additional resources that we could tap into—whether it’s legal resources, financial resources, or funding for starting the business.”
Today, Ironistic has nearly 40 employees, with an office in Grand Junction and team members spread across the U.S. in cities such as Chicago, Dallas, St. Louis, and Denver.
Giving Back: RUN! GEEK! RUN!
In Alexandria, Ironistic’s commitment extends beyond business. For over 15 years, they have organized “RUN! GEEK! RUN!,” a 5K that supports local charities. What started as a small event has grown into an annual fall tradition. Last year’s race raised $48,000 for Move2Learn, a local nonprofit. This year’s beneficiary is Inova’s Life with Cancer Center.
Foss spoke on the importance of the event: “We live here, we work here, and we want to support Alexandria’s community. This race is one way we give back each year.”
Since the race’s inception in 2016, over $188,500 has been donated to local charities around Alexandria.
Looking Ahead
As Ironistic grows, their team remains dedicated to fostering meaningful relationships within Alexandria. Whether it’s through innovative digital projects, community-driven events, or partnerships with local organizations, Ironistic is keeping pace, shaping the future of Alexandria’s business landscape with each step forward.
